University Academy is governed by a Board of Directors who set the policies and guidelines for the organization and who delegate to the Principal and the staff any day-to-day responsibilities for operational matters. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the budget, establishing organization wide policies and overseeing the general operation of the organization.
The Board of Directors serves as guardians of the “public trust” in charge of direct and indirect financial assistance from state and federal governments, in a position of governance as a result of state charter school legislation, as well as non-profit corporate law. This structure makes University Academy’s management accountable to the Board of Directors who, due to their voluntary nature, can effectively provide financial oversight since no personal gain is involved.
Election to the Board of Directors carries with it a responsibility of stewardship. The directors are the custodians of the integrity of the organization; they hold in trust the reputation of the school as created by its founders and as developed by those who have shaped the school in the past. Current directors accept the obligation to not only preserve, but also add to this organization. In this way board members help form not only the present, but also the future composition of the organization.
A Parent Liason serves the board as a conduit of feedback, concerns, and suggestions to the board. Parents are encouraged to contact the Liason at any time.
