The lottery is conducted using RANDOM.ORG’s Third-Party Draw Service. Similar to the role of a certified official, RANDOM.ORG acts as an unbiased third party conducting the drawings in a manner that is guaranteed to be fair and truly random. Operating since 2007, many organizations employ this service for its reputation, reliability, validity, and equity. A Bay District School Board Sponsor’s representative is invited to every lottery drawing.
At lottery end, families are contacted by email, inviting students into the application’s specific grade and requesting an acceptance response. Students not selected in this step of the process are placed on a waiting list for a year, to be called if another family declines or withdraws. Parents should re-submit applications in October of each year to participate in the University Academy placement process and lottery for the following school year. University Academy follows State and Federal guidelines in its lottery process, exempting students already admitted to the charter school. In addition, siblings of students already attending UA are prioritized for enrollment as well as children of the school’s founders, teachers, and staff.
